Do You Ever Wonder What His Head is for?

In the opening chapter of Richard Dawkins' book, "The Selfish Gene", he says:
"When [Praying Mantises] mate, the male cautiously creeps up on the female, mounts her, and copulates. If the female gets the chance, she will eat him, beginning by biting his head off."

That much is common knowledge but then the renowned evolutionary biologist goes on to explain:
"It might seem most sensible for her to wait until copulation is over before she starts to eat him. But the loss of the head does not seem to throw the rest of the male's body off its sexual stride. Indeed, since the insect head is the seat of some inhibiotuy nerve centres, it is possible the female improves the male's sexual performance by eating his head."

Isn't that amazing? The male praying mantise actually performs better at sex WITHOUT his head!

And doesn't that make you wonder whether it applies to other species as well? Most women already believe that men only have enough blood in their bodies to power one head at a time. Now finally we have scientific evidence that you can DECAPITATE the male and it won't stop him from having sex! In fact, it could actually make him better at sex!

Take heed folks, this could really explain a lot about male behaviour ...

Comments:
I think you should change your nickname to "Foreplay!"

But I don't just stop at foreplay ...

Anyway, I was thinking of writing more golf stuff so Fore! seems appropriate for the moment.

I don't think you have actually written any golf stuff.

I have, tangentially at least - The blog about the Background Colour Gene was kicked off by my concern over Tiger Wood's slump last year.

But I wonder whether a post about golf would be of interest to anyone? I can afford to alienate my reader ...
