ENOUGH ALREADY!!!!

22-Jul-2007 16:52 (BST)

Tiger Woods' bid for three consecutive Open Championships ended in failure today, but the world number one deserves great credit for the manner in which he battled around Carnoustie this week. "I hung around and kept myself in contention but I just wasn't as sharp as I needed to be to win a Major Championship" was Tiger's appraisal of his week.

Today he knew that he would have to post a very low score if he was going to have a realistic chance of victory and although he birdied the 4th and 5th hole, bogeys at the 8th and 11th put paid to his chances, the latter coming after he took two shots to get out of the bunker. Birdies came at the 13th and 14th and he had a good birdie attempt at the last but his ball lipped out and Woods finished with a one-under par round of 70.

Woods finished with a total of 2-under par which tied for 12th place, 5 strokes behind the winner.
