I Jinxed Him, I Take it Back, Please!!!
In early May 2007, I published a post marvelling at how Tiger Woods wins so many golf tournaments and ending with the words "When you think about it, it's amazing that we'd bet on 1 player against the entire field of 70+ or 150+ of the world's best golfers. But when you see what he can do, who would bet against Tiger?"
I am acutely aware that since I published that post, Tiger has failed to win a single golf tournament he has entered. He was 37th in The Players Championship, 15th in The Memorial Tournament, 2nd in the U.S. Open and 6th in the AT&T National.
You may think his wife's pregnancy and the subsequent recent birth of his first child may have more to do with his failure to win than my blog post but let me tell you - God works in strange ways and he has played this kind of practical joke on me before.
Many years ago, I went through a period where I was dating one Korean girl after another to the point where I knew more than I ever dreamed I would learn about their culture, their food or the city of Seoul. It wasn't exactly intentional - one was a female friend's best friend, another was a friend's co-worker and the third girl just happened to be in the seat next to mine on a flight from Seoul to Singapore. Then I went to New Delhi for a conference and despite 900 million Indians on the sub-continent, I returned from the conference having picked up 1 of the only 2 Korean girls there (the other was married). I got home, took the lift to the top floor of my apartment, climbed on the roof, shook my fist at the sky and shouted "Stop doing this to me!!!"
So, back to the point. I hereby, without qualification, reservation, hesitation or doubts of any kind, unequivocally revoke all statements in my earlier post about Tiger Woods which may suggest in any manner or form that he is infallible in golf tournaments or that his abilities overshadow or even just approach or approximate any kind of god-like status.
I take it ALL back! So now, will you please stop doing this and let him win The Open Championship later this week? Please?
